Gandhidham / Silchar, 1 December 2025:
iWare Supplychain Services Ltd., in collaboration with the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), has commenced India’s first rail shipment of Bitumen from the Central Warehouse – RWC Gandhidham to Salchapra, Silchar (Assam) using a BCN rake. This development strengthens the scope of multimodal logistics and provides a more efficient and environmentally responsible alternative to long-distance road movement.
⸻
Overview
Bitumen, commonly used in road construction, requires specialised handling, controlled storage, and careful loading processes. These requirements have historically made long-distance rail movement challenging. With upgraded infrastructure and enhanced operational systems at CWC’s RWC Gandhidham, rail transport of Bitumen has now become feasible from this location for the first time.
⸻
Dispatch Details
In the first phase, approximately 2,000 MT of Bitumen is planned for dispatch to Salchapra, Silchar.
This movement is part of a wider initiative by iWare and CWC to expand rail-based logistics capabilities for industrial commodities.
Previous successful operations between the two organisations include the Green Channel Cargo Service on the Gandhidham–Delhi corridor and cargo movement on the Gandhidham–Guwahati route. The current shipment extends this network to the Northeast, improving long-distance connectivity for various industries.
